Advance Praise for Badge of Color:

In 1966 I was a hard core militant who was soon to become the leader of the Santa Ana, California branch of the Black Panther Party. During this same period Harlen Lambert became the first African American police officer in Santa Ana. Needless to say, we were not friends but enemiesnor would we become friends for many years. Earlier this year (2019) at an event sponsored by the Heritage Museum of Orange County, Harlen and I came face-to-face for the first time in 50 years.

It was there that we shook hands, hugged and expressed a new found love for each other. It was also there that I learned details of Officer Lambert's experiences as Santa Ana's first Black police officer on its all-White police force in John Birch Orange County. This book gives us a peek into what it was like and the racism he experienced. I had no clue. Reading some of the things he endured moved my heart and gave me an even stronger love and a much higher level of respect for Harlen.

This is a history that must be read by all who have even the slightest interest in the truth of what it was like growing up Black in Americawhether you were a Black Panther or the first Black man on an all -White police department. Highly recommended. This is a 10 stars read!"
